Preimplantation Tissue Typing

Preimplantation tissue typing (HLA typing) is used for couples who wish to have healthy children who will become donors of pluripotent haematopoietic stem cells to their siblings who suffer from severe diseases. It is one of

the best treatments for children suffering from blood diseases such as thalassaemia, sickle cell anaemia, and malignant diseases such as leukaemia and lymphoma. Preimplantation tissue typing allows the parents to give birth to a child that is tissue-compatible with their living child, and at the same time to screen the second child for the specific hereditary disease through preimplantation genetic diagnosis.
