Chrysa Gakou was born and raised in Thessaloniki. She studied Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Thessaly, graduating in 2008. In 2010, she earned a Master of Science degree on Molecular Biology – Genetics and Diagnostic markers. Between 2011 and 2015, she worked at the Molecular Oncology Laboratory of the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; in mid-2015 she joined IAKENTRO.
